Overview of Cisco Jabber
Cisco Jabber offers secure collaboration with campus contacts and is available for use on PC or Mac, as well as mobile devices such as Android, iPhone/iPod, and iPad. You can use Cisco Jabber as a chat client-only, or enable the additional Jabber Softphone feature to use your computer as a phone, without the need of a physical desk phone.

You can decide how Cisco Jabber Video notifies you when calls come through. To change the ringtone, follow these steps: Use the drop-down menu and select one of the alternatives. Listen to the tone by clicking Play. Note that you must stop one ringtone before you can play another. See Mac OS X requirements for detail on what is required for your computer to run Cisco Jabber Video for TelePresence (hereafter referred to as Jabber Video). A web camera, a microphone, and loudspeakers or a headset must be connected to your computer for Jabber Video to work correctly. See Multimedia device requirements for more detail.

**IMPORTANT NOTE FOR macOS USERS
The Cisco Jabber client for macOS here at NC State requires an InCommon Certificate that is not included with macOS by default. The certificate must be added to the user’s keychain. Please follow the guidance notes.
Implementing Cisco Jabber
- Visit the Self Service page to enable the service. The page will open in a new tab. **Note: VPN required to access the Self Service page when off-campus.
- Click the Jabber Chat Services – Multiplatform option to enable ONLY the chat client.
- Click the Jabber Chat Services – Multiplatform option AND the Jabber Softphone option to enable BOTH Chat and Softphone features.
- You must enable the service for EACH of the devices you wish to use Cisco Jabber Softphone.
- Once you have enabled the service(s), close the tab.
- Download the software (or install the App) for each device:

- Upload a Profile Picture – Faculty / Staff Accounts.
**Specific guidance for Non-Managed Macs:
Go to Cisco Jabber for Mac Upgrade Info and click the download link. You should see something to the effect of “InCommon RSA Server CA.crt or .cer. - The following issues apply to this version of Cisco Jabber Video for TelePresence.
- Windows XP only: Sharing Internet Explorer 6.0 or 8.0 as a presentation makes the presentation video flash.
- When user ends a call while having another call on hold, the presence status erroneously changes to 'Online'. When the second call is resumed, the status remains 'Online'.
- Be sure to install and start up Jabber Video before removing Movi, as settings are imported on first startup.
- When installing:
- Jabber Video installs itself as a new application alongside Cisco TelePresence Movi
- Jabber Video registers itself as the default SIP protocol handler.
- The program bundle identifier is now com.cisco.JabberVideo.
- When Jabber Video is launched:
- Preferences, Favorites, and History are imported from Movi.
- Stored passwords are not imported and must be re-entered.
